Ring and describe it. Wounds that gape, are deep, are on the face, or cross a joint often do, and fresh cuts are generally best closed within about six hours.

What should I do for a burn before I get here?

Cool running water for 20 minutes — not ice, not butter, not ointment. Remove jewellery and any clothing that is not stuck to the burn. Then come in, or go to the emergency department for large or deep burns.

A wound that has not meaningfully improved in two weeks needs investigating rather than simply redressing. Book a review.
