Do I qualify for a care plan?

Does the care plan cost anything?

The plan and its reviews are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card. Allied health providers set their own fees, and Medicare pays a rebate per visit up to your allocation.

How many allied health visits do I get?

Up to five Medicare-subsidised visits per calendar year, shared across all allied health types. Psychology under a Mental Health Treatment Plan is funded separately and does not use these up.

How often should the plan be reviewed?

It depends on your condition and how stable things are. Every six months suits many people, and more often after a hospital stay or a change in treatment. Your GP will tell you when yours is due.

Yes. Most people who benefit from a plan have more than one thing going on, and the plan is designed to handle them together rather than separately.

Do I have to use the allied health provider you suggest?

No. You choose the provider. Ask them about the gap payment when you book, as it varies.

What happens if I don't use all my visits?

The allocation runs by calendar year and unused visits do not carry over. If you are partway through the year with visits left, raise it at your review.

I've just come out of hospital. Should I book a review?

Accepted Answer

Yes — within a week or two. Bring your discharge summary and every medicine box, including the ones you were taking before you went in.
