Does cryotherapy hurt?

It stings sharply while the spot is frozen and for a minute or two afterwards. Most people find it uncomfortable rather than painful. Thin skin and the soles of the feet are more tender.

Will it blister?

Often, yes — sometimes a blood blister. That is expected rather than a complication. Leave it intact if you can; ring us if it is large and painful.

Will it leave a mark?

The treated area can stay permanently lighter than the surrounding skin, and occasionally darker. This is more likely and more noticeable on darker skin. Minor scarring is also possible.

How many treatments will I need?

Sun spots often need only one. Warts commonly need three or more, two to three weeks apart, and plantar warts can take longer.

Can I have it done at the same visit as my skin check?

Often yes, if the lesions are suitable and there is time. Mention it when you book so a longer appointment can be set aside.

Can I treat a wart myself instead?

Salicylic acid preparations from the pharmacy work, used consistently over weeks with the dead skin filed back. Combining that with cryotherapy usually works better than either alone.

Is it safe during pregnancy?

Cryotherapy is generally considered suitable in pregnancy, but tell your GP you are pregnant so the decision is made with that in mind.

Can you freeze a spot I'm worried about?

Not without assessing it first. If a lesion might be a skin cancer it needs a biopsy — freezing destroys the tissue a pathologist would examine.
